Promising to represent the values and interests of rural northern Minnesotans, Tim Hafvenstein officially filed his candidacy to represent District 8A in the Minnesota House of Representatives. District 8A includes all of Carlton County (except for Thomson Township and Scanlon), north and eastern Pine County and four townships north and west of Cloquet in St. Louis County.

"I'm not a politician," said Hafvenstein. "I'm just an ordinary person who decided to run for political office because I saw that our rural, northern Minnesota, traditional values were not being represented at the Minnesota State Capitol by our present representative."

Hafvenstein said he would focus his campaign on issues important to the people of the district, issues that include taxes, job growth, education and health care.

"I've received encouraging responses as I've talked with people in our communities," Hafvenstein said. "We have a lot of issues that need a new, more positive outlook, like reducing taxes and government spending, making sure our schools get fair funding, working toward affordable health care and attracting and keeping quality jobs."

Tim Hafvenstein is a local resident of Cloquet. He has been married to his wife, Cindy, for 26 years and has three children, Stephen, Kara and Aaron. Hafvenstein is a licensed Minnesota "shop" teacher and is the administrator of "Hands Extended," a compassion ministry helping people in need. He enjoys hunting, fishing and camping and is a member of the NRA and Ducks Unlimited.
