Students in grades 8-10 are invited to explore health care career opportunities at a special three-day program to be held Aug. 13-15 at Mercy Hospital and Health Care Center in Moose Lake.
The program, called Health Occupations Today or H.O.T., is coordinated by the University of Minnesota's Northeast Minnesota Area Health Education Center (AHEC).
The only program of its kind in Minnesota aimed at this age group, H.O.T. is a fast-paced program that introduces middle and high school student to a variety of health careers.
It will cover topics such as emergency medicine, rural medicine, nursing, CPR and pharmacy and will include hands-on learning, presentations, tours and academic planning. Students will be able to talk with professionals and tour many behind-the-scenes areas.
"Studies have shown that students who participate in workforce development programs such as H.O.T. in middle and high school are more likely to enroll in college and succeed beyond college," said Brittany Morgan, Northeast Minnesota AHEC Health Career Specialist.
