Grant equals new gear for Carlton F.D.

Carlton Volunteer Fire Department has one full-time paid employee in Chief Dan Hall. However, due to increasing calls for their service, they recently posted a hiring for one additional full-time employee. Recently, the Carlton Fire Department received another boost in a $2,538 grant from AgStar Fund for Rural America's Emergency Response Equipment Grant Program. The money was put toward two four-inch large-diameter hoses, two nozzles, two fittings for one fire hydrant and one four-inch pipe fitting.

"Grants like this are great for departments where funding is low," said Hall. "Anytime we can find somebody to donate to our cause, it's a good thing."

Hall claims the new hoses and fittings should make it easier to work with other fire departments in the area.

"That'll help in cooperation between other departments as well, as far as filling our trucks at scene, things of that nature," said Hall. "Anytime we're out doing structure fires and need to shuttle water, this will help us do that much more efficiently and faster."
