It's been a while since it last happened, but it seems graffiti vandals have struck again in Cloquet.

According to Cloquet Police Chief Wade Lamirande, graffiti has been reported in three different locations in recent weeks, including on vehicles and buildings near Sahlman Court, at Lyn's Auto Body on Avenue B and on a house and garage on Geihan Way.

"We haven't made any arrests, and we don't know who is behind it at this point," said Lamirande.

He did say that judging from the nature of the graffiti, it appears to be the possible product of gang activity, likely the Native Mob or some rival gang looking to prove some point or other.

"This sort of thing kind of ebbs and flows," said Lamirande. "It seems to happen when a gang wants to make its presence known, or a rival gang wants to put them on notice. We haven't seen a whole lot of it since early summer, and we've tried to remove it as soon as it appears."

Lamirande said this is unusually late in the season to have issues with graffiti vandalism.

"We often see a drop in this sort of activity when the weather starts getting colder and the spray cans don't work so well," he said.

Lamirande said the police department has some feelers out to try to discover who might be responsible for any or all of the latest vandalism, and he urged anyone with information to contact the Cloquet Police Department at 218-879-1247.
