The Cloquet City Council selected the finalists for the top job with the Cloquet Police Department.

The council selected Troy Bacon, Eric Klang and Derek Randall to interview for the city’s chief of police position. Interviews are scheduled to be conducted remotely beginning at 3:30 p.m. June 2.

Bacon is currently the Chief of Police in Frankfort, Indiana, where he has served in the position since 2012. Bacon has been with the department since 2004 and in December announced his intention to retire from the department, according to WLFI in West Lafayette, Indiana.

Eric Klang
Eric Klang

Klang has served as the Pequot Lakes (Minnesota) Police Department Chief since 2011. Previously, he worked with the Crow Wing County Sheriff’s Office and served one term as sheriff from 2002-06. Klang unsuccessfully ran for sheriff in 2018, according to the Brainerd Dispatch.

Randall is currently serving as the interim CPD chief. He was appointed to the position in September after Commander Carey Ferrell took a medical leave of absence. Randall has been with CPD since 2001, having served as a patrol officer, detective and investigative commander in that time.

The top position with the police department has been vacant since former Chief Jeff Palmer resigned in August. He had been on a voluntary leave of absence April 2019.
