Chris Swanson was elected to Cloquet City Council in Ward 3 on Tuesday, Feb. 11.

Swanson received 84 votes to Uriah Wilkinson's 14, based on the unofficial results of the special election. Only 88 voters and 10 absentee voters participated out of 1,299 possible voters registered, said John Cavanaugh, head election judge.

“I’m pleased people showed up to vote,” Swanson said.

Swanson, a social studies teacher at Cloquet High School, said he knows and likes his opponent, Uriah Wilkinson, and teaches his sons in school.

Swanson was appointed to the council in July after councilor Dakota Koski vacated his seat. Koski was forced to resign when he purchased a home outside of Ward 3.

Wilkinson said he appreciates the residents who took the time to talk with him when he went door-to-door around town.

“Congratulations to Chris, I wish him the best of luck,” Wilkinson said.
