Carlton County is looking into joining the list of counties and towns across Minnesota to change the age allowing the purchase of vapes, including e-cigarettes, to people 21 and older.

The current age requirement is 18. That can create problems, advocates say, because some high school students are old enough to purchase vapes under the current law, making it easier to bring to school and share or sell to underage students.

The Carlton County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday, April 9, agreed to give County Attorney Lauri Ketola permission to draft a new ordinance for the county.
