Polls close in Carlton County
The polls closed at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6, for the midterm election. Cloquet precincts have been reporting high voter turnout.
The Cloquet Armory reported it had 60 new voter registrations at 5 p.m. The City Hall precinct reports an estimated 74 percent voter turnout.
Armory head election judge Brenda Alanen expressed surprise at the number of people that kept pouring through the doors all day. As of 5:30 p.m., over 900 voters, or 83 percent, had cast ballots.
"This is a lot above average," Alanen said. "It's busier than the presidential election," she said.
She said people were lined up at the door when it opened at 7 a.m. and filled the room most of the day.
