Carlton County primary results are in! (corrected)
Primary results are in for local races in Carlton County, with the top two vote getters in each of four races heading to the General Election in November.
COUNTY COMMISSIONER: Of the five candidates for Carlton County Commissioner District 4, incumbent Susan Zmyslony was easily the most popular, garnering 623 votes (35 percent), while second place winner Mark Thell got 439 to also advance. Randy McCuskey got 382 votes for third. To round out the race for commissioner, Michael Gay got 279 votes, while Brenda Martini got 61.
In Cloquet, there were three primary contests: for Mayor, At-Large City Councilor and Ward 3 City Councilor.
MAYOR: In the mayor’s race, Roger Maki had the most support, with 1,337 votes (57 percent) to incumbent Mayor Dave Hallback’s 697 votes, so those two will go on to the General Election. Candidates Trevor Berg garnered 181 votes while Andy Lee Angell got 122.
AT-LARGE: It was a special election for At-Large City Councilor, with four people vying to fill Adam Bailey’s vacated seat for the last two years of his term. Lara Wilkinson took the most votes with 947 (41 percent), with Les Riess in second with 648 votes. Elizabeth “Lyz” Jaakola came in third with 408 votes while Barb Wyman got 307 votes.
WARD 3: Dakota Koski got the most votes in Ward 3 with 159 (39 percent), with Richard Colsen also advancing to the General Election with 132 votes. Randy Flynn got 115 votes.
All of the Cloquet precincts had reported and all of the precincts in Carlton County's District 4. However, not every precinct had been counted, so this report does not include all of the statewide races that were on the ballot Tuesday.
