The Cloquet City Council will be accepting applications for an interim councilor to fill the Ward 3 seat being vacated by Dakota Koski on July 1.
Koski announced in May that he was leaving his seat on the council after purchasing a home outside the ward he represents.
The council voted during its June 4 meeting to hold a special election to fill the seat, but under state requirements the election can't be held until Nov. 5. If more than two candidates file to run for the position, a primary will be Nov. 5 and a general election will be Feb. 10. The delay requires the council appoint an interim representative from Ward 3.
Ward 3 residents interested in applying for the position should submit a list of qualifications to City Administrator Aaron Reeves no later than July 10 to be considered for appointment.
The council will interview and appoint a Ward 3 councilor to serve until the election can be held during its July 16 meeting.
The council voted to cancel a meeting scheduled for July 2 because of the July 4 holiday later in the week.
