Gordy's Hi-Hat opened Monday, marking the start of their 47th season in Cloquet.
"It's time to put winter behind us," said Gordy Lundquist. "Time to open and get to work, something we've been doing for 47 seasons."
The Cloquet landmark drive-in restaurant was opened in 1960 by Gordy and Marilyn Lundquist and is still owned and operated by the Lundquist family today. Gordy's has become known for its fresh hand-pattied hamburgers, hand-battered fish, homemade onion rings, and fresh blended shakes and malts. The drive-in has received many restaurant and business awards, including nomination as a "Curbside Classic" by Midwest Living Magazine and a "Minnesota Favorite" by Minnesota Monthly Magazine.
Gordy's has also been recognized as being "Home to the Best Burger in the North," in the book Searching for the Holy Grill. The book by award-winning author and illustrator Jeff Hagen is a guide to the Midwest's most divine burgers.
"Our customers are the best - kind of like family," said Lundquist. "We are grateful they return and are happy to serve them for another season. We hope it feels like spring when they think of us."
