Goessling, Nordic skiers keeping up

The Cloquet-Esko-Carlton Nordic ski teams have still somehow found a way to hit the trails and race, even without considerable snowfall. Last Tuesday CEC finished second in both the boys and girls division of the Dan Hedin Freestyle Race at Spirit Mountain and on Saturday the girls took fifth while the boys took third in the Ely Classic Invitational.

Raleigh Goessling led CEC with a second-place finish in Ely behind Nick Peterson of Ely. Neil Smith (11th), Paul Quiram (13th), Matt Palmquist (16th) and Taylor Nordvall (37th) rounded out the scoring for CEC, which finished third behind Duluth East and Ely.

Becky Cook led the CEC girls with an eighth-place finish, Neysa Granholm (18th), Kamilla Simensen (22nd), Amanada Norbie (24th) and Megan Mattson (34th) finished up the scoring.

  • In last Tuesday's event at Spirit Mountain, Goessling took top honors in the boys race as he led CEC to a second-place finish in the seven-team event.

CEC also got strong finishes from Quiram (5th), Palmquist (6th), Smith (10th), Nordvall (20th), Sam Cook (24th) and Isaak Waldorf (32nd).
On Tuesday at Spirit Mountain the CEC girls finished second behind Duluth East as Becky Cook led the Jacks with an eighth-place finish. Granholm took 10th, Norbie was 13th, Matson finished 15th and Simensen was 20th and Sarah Gleason took 27th.
