George C. Oswald, 73, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 29, 2007, at his home in Moose Lake with his wife, Garnet, by his side. He was born June 23, 1934, in Cloquet. He graduated from Cloquet High School in 1952. George attended the University of Minnesota for a short time. While living at home with his parents, George and his brother Alwyn began a business of working on small engines in Scanlon. He later decided to attend school in Minneapolis, Minn., to become a computer technician. He then was hired by Control Data in May of 1972. George married Garnet Switzer of Moose Lake on July 7, 1971. While working for Control Data, they lived in Minneapolis, Buffalo, New York and Skogie, Ill. In 1980 they moved back to Minnesota, purchasing a farm just outside of Kettle River. George loved animals and working with them. He had his loveable dog, R.C., which he enjoyed spending a lot of time with.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Magnus and Honorien (Panger) Oswald; brother, Alwyn; sisters, Florine and Shirley; granddaughter, Pamela Marsh; mother- and father-in-law, Orval and Sena Switzer; brothers-in-law, Frank Engels, Wally Ahonen, Phillip Switzer and Eugene Tischer; and sisters-in-law, Gena Switzer, Sally Switzer and Dorothy Switzer.
George is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Garnet; son, Duane of Pine City; daughter, Delight (James) Marsh of Alvin, Texas; grandchildren, Joseph, Michael and Michelle Marsh and Alex Oswald; sister, Faith Engels of Cambridge, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Gloriann Oswald of Cloquet, Marian Ahonen and Ruby Tischer; and brothers-in-law, Joseph Nader, Larry Switzer, Harlan Switzer and Roger Switzer. He will also be lovingly remembered by many nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 2, in the Assemblies of God Family Worship Church, Moose Lake, at a time that will be announced later.
