The Friends of Animals shelter will not be open for pet adoptions Monday, April 23, through Friday, April 27, due to the installation of new electrical wiring in the back portion of the shelter building. According to Executive Director Danny Johnson, a lighting problem developed in the latter part of the shelter last week, and upon examination by the Cloquet Fire Department, it was determined that the wiring in the back portion of the building was in need of immediate replacement. Anderson said the electrical wiring in the building is at least 20 years old and may have suffered damage from mice or squirrels at some point. During the course of the week, the shelter will continue to accept strays, but no adoptions will be carried out. The cost of the rewiring is expected to reach as high as $20,000, which Johnson said will severely cut into the shelter's operating budget. He added donations will be greatly appreciated and can be sent to: Friends of Animals, 1418 Highway 33 South, Cloquet, MN 55720.
