Friday Fest isn't just for people anymore. At this Friday's celebration in the Historic West End of Cloquet, pooches and other pets will rule the day! With the "Dog Days of Summer" theme in the third of six events, a wide array of pet-related and other activities promise fun for the whole family.
First, pooches, felines or other well-behaved animals are invited to visit the PETicures booth between 6-8 p.m., where, for donations, Friends of Animals volunteers will pamper and primp animals.
"Pets can get fluffed and buffed for the special night out on the town or for the Pet Show that evening," said Stephanie Wehr, an event organizer.
At another booth, Friends of Animals volunteers and staff will encourage visitors to meet pets up for adoption, and buy pet licenses, as well as T-shirts and sweatshirts. Those wishing to purchase a pet license should bring rabies certificates for their animals. All proceeds go to Friends of Animals.
A Pet Show will begin at 6:30 p.m. near Arch Street and Avenue C. Pet tricks will be featured first, with a pet costume parade and open pet show to follow. All ages are welcome to show their pets with children 12 and under needing an adult standing nearby in order to participate.

Events created especially for people will also be available. The band "Blue Light Special" will play and a variety of food and beverages will be available. Artists will display and sell their wares as will other vendors.
For kids, Friday Fest will again offer a Kid Zone with an inflatable climbing wall donated by McDonald Rental, face painting, the Lake Superior Zoo Mobile from 6 to 7 p.m. and pony rides.
All vaccinated pets are welcome at Friday Fest provided they are on leashes or in cages. Owners will be expected to pick up after their pets.
Friday Fest runs from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 31, along Avenue C, which will be closed to vehicles that day from 5 to 9:30 p.m.
