Franklin Louis Rodd, 72, of Cloquet, Minn., passed away Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, at Community Memorial Hospital in Cloquet. He was born June 8, 1935, in Gary, Ind., to Franklin A. and Thelma (Stanton) Rodd. He moved to Cloquet at age 12 and graduated from Cloquet Senior High School in 1953. Not long after high school, Frank married Bonnie Bergquist from West Duluth. Frank then enlisted in the United States Army and Bonnie traveled with him to Oklahoma. After Frank finished his tour with the Army he and Bonnie moved back to Cloquet, where he worked at Wood Conversion Company, which later became Conwed Corporation, and then USG, from where he retired. In his younger years, Frank was an excellent athlete. He played basketball in a YMCA league in Cloquet, as well as softball. His main passions, however, were hunting and fishing, and watching Cloquet Lumberjack and Minnesota Gopher hockey. Frank was a devoted and caring husband to Bonnie, who developed multiple sclerosis. Even though he suffered from Parkinson's disease himself, he always thought of her first, and after she passed away his flame grew dimmer. Frank's sense of humor endeared him to his many friends and family, and he will forever be in our hearts and memories.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie; his parents; brothers Jack and Bob; and sisters Shirley and Jeanine.
He is survived by his brother George (Arlene) of Scanlon and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 15, from 9 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service at the Cloquet Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Rev. Marli Danielson, followed by a luncheon reception in the church social hall.
The family has selected Nelson Funeral Care, Cloquet, (218) 879-3225, to assist them with arrangements. See their online guest book at www.legacy.com .
