Former Lost Isle owner Tim Rogentine, 46, of Carlton made his first appearance in Carlton County Court Wednesday on charges of selling, bartering or exchanging alcohol without a valid license, fifth-degree misdemeanor assault and disorderly conduct.

According to the complaint filed in the case, Carlton County deputies were dispatched to the Lost Isle Bar and Restaurant in Twin Lakes Township on July 3 regarding an assault between Rogentine (who was still operating the establishment at that time) and a patron who was there attending a wedding reception.

The alleged victim told deputies that Rogentine had attacked him by striking him with a closed fist to the head and later hitting him again on the left side of his neck, placing him into a headlock and pushing him into a table.

Rogentine admitted to throwing the first punch and stated to officers he shouldn't have done it, claiming the complainant was "getting in his face" and confronting him on how he ran his bar.

While investigating the assault, officers also learned that Rogentine was reportedly serving alcohol at the establishment despite the fact that his liquor license had expired on July 1.

Rogentine is scheduled to make his next court appearance on Monday, Oct. 4.

Rogentine and the Lost Isle came under scrutiny earlier this year when the state of Minnesota mandated his liquor license not be renewed since he owed $23,000 in back taxes for 2009. Since that time, a new owner has taken over the establishment, which will reportedly be reopened as The Northstar.
