FinnFest group to tour local cemeteries, Moose Lake Depot/Museum

An assembly of FinnFest 2008 participants will tour Carlton County on Tuesday, July 22.

The tour begins and ends at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center. Respected author and speaker, Dr. Arnold Alanen, will host this fascinating tour of Carlton County.

The group will stop at the Moose Lake Depot and Fires of 1918 Museum for a presentation and coffee hour. They will then continue on to the Kettle River Cemetery and Finnish Monument. The group will be presented with a commemorative lapel button depicting Finnish heritage along with the slogan, "'Til we meet again." The button, designed by Bunkhouse Studios, will also be on sale at the Depot Museum Gift Shop.

The Carlton County Tour will also stop at Morgan Park, Jay Cooke State Park, Fond du Lac Cultural Center, Esko, and the Carlton County Historical Societies.

FinnFest 2008, which celebrates Finnish culture and heritage, will take place July 23-27 at the DECC and is expected to draw up to 7,000 people.

Since 1969, the mission of the Moose Lake Area Historical Society is to collect, preserve and promote the history of Moose Lake and the surrounding areas. Programs of interest to the public are offered throughout the year. The archives contain a large collection of historical photographs, videotapes and family and local history files.
