We thank those of you who supported our booth at Carlton Daze!  Vendors donated a sampling of their products plus we painted children’s favorite fruit or veggie on their cute little faces! It was a lot of fun and we raised over $200 toward the purchase of new market signs for next season. We still have a ways to go toward raising enough money to cover the cost of new signs. With that in mind, a few of our vendors have donated handmade items toward a raffle. First prize is a handcrafted hunting knife (a work of art - it is beautiful and useful); second prize is a handcrafted lawn or garden flower, a potted African violet, and a bar of homemade soap; third prize is $25 worth of produce. The drawing will be held on Labor Day. Stop by the information booth for more details.

August 3-9 is National Farmers Market Week. Garden plants are kicking in gear. This week at the market expect to find beans, beets, carrots, celery, cherry tomatoes, cucumbers, fennel, green garlic, greens, kohlrabi, onions, peppers, radish, raspberries, shitake mushrooms, slicing tomatoes, snow peas, sugar snap peas and zucchini. While produce is the main event at the market, don’t forget about our baked products, poultry, crafts and candy. The face paints may even show up again!

This week’s recipe is a Raspberry Vinaigrette - enjoy with fresh greens from the market!

Be sure to stop by the information booth to sign up for our monthly drawing. You will find us in Carlton on Tuesdays from 4-6 p.m. at the Four Seasons Event and Sports Center, and in Cloquet Saturdays from 9-11 a.m. in the Municipal Lot on Cloquet Avenue and 11th Street.

Just a reminder:  The market accepts credit/debit cards at the information booth for use at the Carlton County Farmers’ Market.

Have a great week and eat healthy! See you at the market.
