The Esko volleyball program hosted a 10-team tournament on Saturday with all teams playing five matches in best of three events.
"There was a lot of good competition in the tournament," said Esko coach Desiree DeLeon. "We played a little up and down, but the experience was good for our team."
Southwest Christian School defeated Greenway in the championship match by scores of 25-19, 25-18, and Esko defeated the Northwestern Wildcats 12-25, 25-13 and 15-13 for third place.
In the fifth-place match, it was Hermantown knocking off Cloquet 25-21 and 25-22, while International Falls and Deer River played for seventh place and Moose Lake-Willow River played for ninth.
Cloquet won in two straight games over International Falls in the first round, lost to Southwest Christian in two in the second round, split with Esko 13-25 and 25-20 in the third round, and split with ML-WR in the fourth round 21-25 and 25-17.
