Eskomos pound out gritty win over Barnum

The emotion at Barnum High School Tuesday night was high - and the caliber of volleyball play between the host Bombers and Esko was even higher. The Eskomos needed some brilliant performances across the board in order to pick up the win and grab first place in the Polar League.

Esko is 5-0 in Polar League play following the 25-20, 25-15, 22-25, 20-25, 15-7 victory over Barnum, but it took a huge night from the entire Esko squad to pull out the win against the feisty hometown bombers. Jamie Rust helped lead the Eskomo attack as she finished with 23 kills and 16 digs, Keely Deadrick added 41 set assists and Kayla Handevidt chipped in with 12 kills for Esko.

On the other side of the floor the Bombers had big night from Katrina Newman who hammered home 19 kills and for good measure added 17 digs. Jordan Juntunen led the offense for the Bombers with 27 set assists and Jessica Newman had nine kills.

Overall the Eskomos improved to 12-3, while the Bombers fell to 10-6 overall and 4-2 in conference play.
