The Esko boys and girls had a strong showing at the Simpson Invitational Track Meet held at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Friday. The Eskomos had numerous athletes take top three finishes in the 10-school meet.
On the girls side, the Eskomos finished second with 133.5 points. Northwestern won the event with 163 points. The boys event was won by Superior, with Esko taking sixth.
Abby Nelson was a double winner by taking first in both the 800 meters and the 1,500-meter run. Kaycee Knutson finished second to Nelson in the 1500, but then Knutson came back to win the 3,200-meter run by nearly 20 seconds over Northwestern's Amber Gurske.
Brianna Langley and Jess Bergstedt of Esko went 1-2 in the 55-meter hurdle event, while Neysa Granholm grabbed a third place in the 400-meter dash.
Esko also had some impressive finishes in the relays. The 4x400 relay team took second and the 4x800 relay team was third.

In the field events, Esko's Sara Skyberg was first in the high jump with a jump of 5'1" while Amanda Bergstedt was third with a jump of 5 feet even. Jamie Rust took second in the triple jump.
In the boys event, Esko's Brandon McCabe won the pole vault with a vault of 12 feet 6 inches. The Eskomo 4x800 relay team also captured first place, while the 4x400 relay team was third.
David Palmi took third for Esko in the 55-meter dash and Bryan Lindquist was third in the 3,200-meter run.
Esko, along with other Polar League schools, also competed on Saturday at University of Wisconsin-Superior.
