Esko 'Mathletes' bound for state tournament

It was a very successful regular season for the Esko Senior High Math Team. The team finished in first place in the division after winning four straight math meets.

It was a very successful regular season for the Esko Senior High Math Team. The team finished in first place in the division after winning four straight math meets.

As division champions, the Eskomo "mathletes" will go on to compete in the Minnesota State Math Meet. This is the third consecutive year that an Esko Math Team has qualified for state.

Eskomo mathletes also swept the individual competition. Senior Beth Rengo and sophomore Heather Gunderson finished at the top of the division in a tie for first place.

Junior Thomas Towner finished in third place in the division. Seniors Jared DeVries and Ana Vang, junior Katy Townsend and sophomore Katie Saphner also finished among the top 10 individuals in the division.

As a result of their first place finish, Rengo and Gunderson will participate in the individual competition at the state meet where they will compete against the best mathletes in Minnesota.

Karl Olesen coaches the Esko math team. The State Math Meet will be held at Eagan High School on March 12.
