The Esko baseball team notched a pair of wins over McGregor and a good Mora team last week but dropped to Denfekd this week.

On Monday night Esko fell 16-15 to the Denfeld Hunters in a slugfest despite gaining an early lead.

"We got off to an 8-0 start after the first inning," recalled Esko coach Ben Haugen. "Denfeld kept clawing back while we got stagnant. We played with no sense of urgency until the bottom of the seventh inning when we were down 16-9."

The Eskomos did cut into the lead and pulled to within a run, but they came up just short in their quest for the victory.

"I'll have to hand it to the kids for not quitting, scoring six runs in the last inning only to come up a run short," mentioned Haugen. "Once again untimely errors and seeing eye hits hurt us."

Robbie Johnson was 2-for-4 with two runs scored, Kyle Hall also was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a pair of RBIs, and Micah Tengesdahl added two hits a run scored, four RBIs and a double for the Eskomos.

  • The Eskomos rode the strong pitching of Kyle Hall to the 3-0 victory against Mora. Hall finished with a four-hitter, did not allow an earned run, fanned 11 and walked one in his seven inning complete game.

"Kyle Hall was dominant," said Esko coach Ben Haugen. "It was a big win for us."
At the plate, Hall helped his own cause with a 2-for-2 effort, Robbie Johnson chipped in with a 2-for-4 effort along with a double, an RBI and two runs scored. Dylan Anderson was unstoppable with four hits in four at-bats, one of which was a double along with an RBI, and Nate Lewis and Jake Olson both belted out a pair of hits.

"The bats are finally starting to come around," explained Haugen. "Considering Mora was the team to go to state out of our section last year, it was a good way to measure our team against section teams."

  • Last Thursday, the Eskomos drubbed McGregor 7-3 as Matt Sundstrom allowed two hits in five innings of work while gaining the win. Matt Tengesdahl picked up the save by pitching the last two innings.

Both Robbie Johnson and Kyle Hall slammed out two hits for the Eskomos, with Johnson scoring a run and Hall belting out a double.
Sundstrom fanned five and walked one in his pitching stint, while Tengesdahl allowed two runs, gave up four hits and fanned a pair of Mustangs.
