The community is invited to the annual Celebration of Young Musician’s festival, which is free, at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 29, in the Cloquet Middle School auditorium.
The Minnesota Music Educators Association (MMEA) sponsors the annual Celebration of Young Musicians Festivals throughout the state. Students in grades 4-6 come together from area schools for a celebration of singing. This opportunity to work with others students and directors has been a positive experience for everyone.
This year marks the fifth festival Cloquet School Music department has hosted. Singers from Minnehaha Elementary from Two Harbors, McGregor Public School, Rippleview Elementary from Aikin, Bayview Elementary from Proctor and Churchill and Washington Elementary Schools in Cloquet will perform.
Dr. Bret Amundson, director of choral activities and the director of General Education at The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, is clinician for the day.
At St. Scholastica, Amundson directs the St. Scholastica Concert Choir and Bella Voce. Under his direction, CSS Choirs perform several concerts a year and annually tour both regionally and nationally, including the 2013 tour to Rome, Assisi, Subiaco, and Norcia, Italy as a part of The College’s Centennial Celebration. In 2014, Amundson was awarded the college’s Benedictine Professorship in General Education. In 2015, he was named one of Duluth’s 20 Under 40.
Amundson is also the artistic director for the Lake Superior Youth Chorus and is the artistic director of the Twin Ports Choral Project.
