Elsie Peggy Simpson, 89, a resident of the Forest Grove community in Oregon, died Tuesday morning, Nov. 27, 2007, at Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro. Elsie was born Dec. 18, 1917, in London, England, the daughter of the late Albert and Edith (Hayman) Harris. She was raised and received her education in the London area. She was united in marriage to Vernon Haskell Simpson in 1944, in London, England. Vernon was killed during World War II in 1945. Elsie served in the Royal Air Force during World War II. She and Vernon's young son, Vernon R. Simpson, moved to the United States in the early 1950s, settling in Michigan for a period of time, and then Minnesota. Elsie worked as a mill worker at Potlatch Paper Company in Cloquet, Minn. She remained in Cloquet until 1997 when she moved to the Forest Grove area to be closer to her son, Vern and his family. Among her special interests, Elsie loved to garden and was wonderful at knitting.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Vernon R. and Judy Simpson of Forest Grove, Ore.; a sister, Doris Lucas of London; two grandsons and their spouses, Eric and Teresa Simpson of Forest Grove and Ian and Kendra Simpson of Thornton, Colo.; eight great-grandchildren, Kelly, Rebecca, Jesse, Veronica, Alex, Reid, Rylie and Adrian; many nieces and one nephew throughout London and Australia, as well as a great niece.
A private interment will be held.
The family suggests that remembrances be made to Emanuel Lutheran Church, 1124 South Beech Street, Cornelius, OR 97113, in her memory.
