Carlton Community Education will host its 25th annual "Learning Camp: Adventures for Your Brain" session this summer, with the theme "Flight and Outer Space."

The camp is open to students who will be in grades 1-5 in the fall and will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 3-6.

According to Community Education Director Daisy Rose, it will be held at the Carlton Elementary School and will feature a range of activities, including projects, experiments, group discussions and guest speakers.

Activities will be done both indoors and outdoors, with one snack provided throughout the day.

"It's jam-packed with many different activities," Rose said.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the camp was not held last year, and Rose shared that they are thrilled to be bringing it back, especially with the return of "Jeopardy" champion and former camp counselor Sam Kavanaugh.

"I know Sam is excited to be back," she said.

Camp registration is open now and is open to all school districts, with Carlton students being given priority.

Rose shared that it is unlikely the camp will turn away students, with an average of 40 students participating per year.

She explained that additional staff can be added to the camp as needed, with local teachers and students, as well as the camp counselor, helping to oversee operations.

Cost of camp attendance is $80. Registration forms can be found and printed at carlton.k12.mn.us/parents-community/community-education/class-registration-form.
