Two more grades at Cloquet School District closed to open enrollment due to class sizes reaching capacity.

The Cloquet School Board approved closing grades 6 and 8 to open enrollment at the Monday, Sept. 9, meeting, joining kindergarten and first, third, fourth and seventh grades in the list of grades no longer open.

The tentative number of students in the district is 2,622, slightly higher than last year's number. Enrollment could decline slightly after the 15-day drop period, Superintendent Michael Cary said.

Still, Cary told the board to expect an action item at the Oct. 14 board meeting to consider closing any remaining grades if enrollment stays steady.
