There were more people at Pine Valley Saturday morning than most folks had ever seen in Cloquet's woodland park. Unfortunately, there weren't enough eggs to fill all their Easter baskets.
Still, it was a fabulous morning. Although some children didn't find any eggs due to the high turnout and athletic skills of some kids who were simply faster off the mark, many of those more egg-blessed children shared their plastic treasures, some with absolute strangers. Other kids took advantage of the park and simply walked with their family, loading up on pine cones and enjoying the festive atmosphere. Twelve children found golden eggs, which they exchanged for prizes ranging from bicycles to a skateboard to a beach package in anticipation of warmer days to come.
And, of course, the Easter Bunny was there, posing for photos with kids of all ages.
"We never thought that 3,000 eggs wouldn't be enough for everyone to have a good experience," said Kelly Zink, executive director of the Cloquet Area Chamber of Commerce, which coordinated the event with the city of Cloquet and Cloquet Community Education. "We hope everyone will come back next year. We'll be much more prepared for those kinds of numbers."
More than 1,000 people came out for Saturday's Cloquet Egg Hunt.
