Duluth resident Misty Anne Baum, 40, has been charged with three drug-related offenses after the Cloquet Police Department (CPD) seized a package containing approximately 2.2 pounds of cocaine from Baum on Jan. 11.

Officers executed a search warrant at a residence in the 400 block of 8th street in Cloquet after they received a tip from the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) that a package containing suspected cocaine would be delivered there, a news release said.

The package was seized from Baum after she was seen entering a vehicle at the Cloquet residence. Officers stopped the vehicle before it left the property. A field test on the substance tested positive for cocaine.

Baum was taken into custody and later charged with one count of first degree possession, one count of fifth degree possession and one count of introducing contraband.

CPD detectives worked closely with the DEA, Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, Lake Superior Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, Minneapolis Airport Police, Carlton County Sheriff’s Office and the Fond du Lac Police Department throughout the investigation.

“I just wanted to say thank you to all the agencies involved and our detectives,” Cloquet Police Chief Derek Randall said at a recent city council meeting.

The drugs totaled at approximately $29,000 in street value.

"We know how devastating that can be to our community,” Randall said of the drug quantity.

According to Jeff Boucher, chief deputy Carlton County Attorney , Baum's bail was set at $100,000, but as an alternative to posting bail, she was ordered into intensive pretrial release. Intensive pretrial release is a program for high risk offenders in Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Department of Corrections. It includes four face-to-face contacts every week, electronic home monitoring, mandatory work or school, daily curfews, mandatory restitution and random drug testing, according to the DOC website.
