An alert Duluth police patrol officer arrested a man wanted for questioning in a fatal stabbing in Virginia.

Robert Jacob Russell III was spotted getting out of a car in downtown Duluth late Tuesday night, Duluth police said. An officer saw that the man getting out of the car fit Russell's description and took him into custody.

He is being held at St. Louis County jail.

The 39-year-old Russell was wanted in connection with the death of 33-year-old Jamie John Drumm of Virginia, who died in Virginia Regional Medical Center after being stabbed multiple times on Saturday. Drumm and another man were walking when, police say, a vehicle with Russell, Jared William Boshey, 22, of Virginia, and a woman drove by. Words were exchanged, and a fight ensued. Drumm and the other man suffered stab wounds.

Boshey remains in custody under preliminary charges of first-degree assault.
