Dorothy "Grandma Dot" Mildred Richards, 96, of Cromwell died Saturday, July 14, 2007, in Community Memorial Hospital, Cloquet. Dorothy was born in 1911 in Ironton, Minn., to Jaster and Blanche Line. She graduated from Cromwell High School in 1930. Dot married Edward Richards on Nov. 2, 1930, at the family home in Cromwell. Dot was a hardworking farm wife and worked for Gerd Alff in Kimberly. She did gardening, cooking, cleaning and took care of numerous families. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church and its Sarah Circle. Dot cooked for the men when they built the new church. She helped with the Hunters Supper and quilted for many years. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening flowers and veggies, family tree books, word finds, and scrapbooking.

Dot was preceded in death by her husband, Edward; son-in-law, Walter Hakala Sr.; granddaughter, Brenda Hage; brothers, Rodney, Rufus, Jack, James, and Leon Line; sisters, Amy Kingsley and Blanche Kingsley.

Dot is survived by her children, Joyce Hakala of Cromwell, Glen (Doris) Richards of Mahtowa, and Wayne (Karen) Richards of Cromwell; brother, Hugh (Renee) Line of Wrenshall; sister, Jessie Houck of Roseville; 18 grandchildren, Debi (Edward) Madison, Glenice (Florian) Tomczak, James (Karla) Richards, Crystal Hakala, Sheryl (Daniel) Smith, Gail (James) Smith, Walter (Mary) Hakala Jr., Laurel Freeman, Muriel Darris, Herman Hakala, Edward (Linda) Hakala, Amanda Hakala, Keith (Regina) Richards, Leslie (Jeri) Richards, Eugene (Denise) Richards, Irene (Charles) Carlson, and John (Cindye) Richards; 43 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Friday, July 20, from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service in Bethany Lutheran Church in Cromwell. Burial will be in Forest Hill Cemetery in Cromwell.
