Dorothy Fern Arntson, 101, of Cloquet died Wednesday, April 4, 2007, in Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. She was born July 30, 1905, in Cloquet, the daughter of Daniel and Anna McGilvray. Dorothy married Alfred Arntson on May 10, 1924, in Cloquet. Dorothy worked at Diamond Match in Cloquet for 25 years. After retirement, she and her husband kept busy making many patchwork quilts, rugs, gardening and canning. She was a member of the Esko Senior Citizens, Apostolic Lutheran Church and the Eagles Auxiliary Drill Team. Dorothy's family and her grandchildren were her "everything." She especially loved the many family picnics and playing board games at the kitchen table with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 72 years, Alfred in 1995; three grandsons, Ronald Kinnunen, Jamie Heikkinen and Michael Arntson; three sisters, Thelma Boyer, Annabelle Sutherlund and Ruby McGilvray; and five brothers, Donald, Robert, Ray, Earl and Fred McGilvray.
Dorothy will be lovingly remembered and her generous giving spirit will be deeply missed by her three daughters, Betty Kinnunen, Ruby (Dick) Heikkinen, both of Esko, and Margaret Mell of Scanlon; two sons, Duane (Mary) Arntson of Esko and Jim Arntson of Lake Park, Minn.; 20 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
Visitation was held Monday, April 9, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service in Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet, followed by a luncheon in the Fireside Room of the funeral home. Spring inurnment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Cloquet.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Friends of Animals.
