Doris Bernice Haus, 89, of Carlton, Minn., passed away Friday, Nov. 14, 2008, at Inter-Faith Care Center, Carlton. She was born Jan. 3, 1919, in Duluth, Minn., to Albin and Hilda (Nelson) Johnson and graduated from Duluth Central High School. Bernice also attended Duluth Teachers College and worked as a buyer in the office for Sears. She was a longtime former member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Duluth, and was a faithful member of Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton. Bernice enjoyed gardening, golfing, and living at Chub Lake, but most especially she loved her family.

Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; an infant son, Steven; two brothers, Russell Johnson and E. Wally Johnson; and one sister, Alice Bendick.

She is survived by her husband, Francis Haus; three sons, David (Mari) Haus of Lompoc, Calif., Douglas (Lola) Haus of Two Harbors, Minn., and Daniel (Linda) Haus of Hugo, Minn.; 10 grandchildren, Bob Haus, Tom Haus, Mike Haus, Dane Ehring, Mike Ehring, Steven Haus, Barbara Bakke, Clayton Haus, Matthew Haus and Nena Johansen; 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held Monday, Nov. 17, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Carlton officiated by the Rev. Michael Fossen. Music was provided by Joel Soukkala as soloist and Bev Drewlow as organist. Pallbearers were Bernice's grandchildren. A luncheon and time of fellowship in the social hall followed the service. Interment was at Hillside Cemetery.
