Donald G. Dormanen, 70, of Cloquet died Tuesday, April 3, 2007, in Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton. He was born in 1936 in Gackle, N.D., to Edward and Wilma Dormanen. Don grew up in Wolf Lake, Cromwell and Cloquet, and graduated from Cloquet High School in 1954. He was a United States Air Force veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict. On Jan. 30, 1960, Don married Karen Nilsen in Duluth. He worked for Davidson Printing for 32 years. Don was a member of the Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church and the Gem and Rock Club. He loved being outdoors whether it was for a walk, just exploring, running or kayaking. At the age of 50 Don ran the full Grandma's Marathon and has run several Grandma's Half Marathons since. His greatest enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; step-father, Herman Nuutinen; and one brother, Delbert.
He is survived by his wife, Karen; sons, David of Pillager and Dan of Walker; sisters, Blythe (Eddie) Moore and Peggy Mitchell, both of St. Paul, June (Leland) Jarpey of Minneapolis, Mary (William) Tuominen of Grand Rapids, and Linda (Robert) Golmen of Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren, Alex, James and Mariah; and many brothers and sisters in faith.
Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. Friday, April 6, in Northland Funeral Home, Cloquet. Visitation resumed from Saturday, April 7, from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in Independent Apostolic Lutheran Church in Munger Township near Duluth. Burial was in Maple Grove Cemetery in Cloquet.
