Kami Diver poured in 29 points to lead the Cloquet girls basketball team to a 60-49 victory over Milaca on Friday night.
"It was a decent game and we were playing with different looks, lineups and tempos," mentioned Cloquet coach Brad Vieths. "The team turned it on in the second half. In the first half, we tried to push it into an up-tempo game with lots of pressure and fast breaking."
While that tempo worked at times for the Jacks, it ended up working more to the benefit of Milaca as they took a 27-24 lead into halftime.
"We were trying to use our guard attack and it worked in spurts, but we were beating ourselves," explained Vieths. "In the second half, we worked on our control game and shortened our press, controlled our shots and focused on rebounding."
Diver ended with a double-double, scoring 29 points, 19 rebounds, eight steals and four assists. Hannah Roy added 10 points for Cloquet, Tiffany LaCroix added six points, Rebecca Rowenhorst scored five, it was Jes Vork and Brianna Henagin each scoring four points, and Briann Stork added two points.

"We also had solid performances from Hannah Roy in scoring and with Brianna Henagin and Becca Rowenhorst in rebounding, with 11 and 10 respectively," said Vieths. "The girls are learning that our lack of height doesn't affect them as much as they thought it would."
Lindsay Westhal led Milaca with 15 points.
"Overall our team is starting to come along," stated Vieths. "We are playing much better and starting to find our strengths."
