On Tuesday, Nov. 18, Yvonne Davis received the state's 2008 Adult Volunteer of the Year award. Davis has been a volunteer at Inter-Faith Care Center in Carlton for more than 30 years. She began volunteering by reading to residents. And shortly thereafter she started a "sing praises" and a sing-a-long group. In addition to traveling more than 40 miles one way, two days per week, to volunteer at Inter-Faith Care Center, she is also a volunteer grandmother to homeless teens in Duluth.

Davis was nominated for the state award by Roxanne Hedlund, activity director at Inter-Faith Care Center. She received her award at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Minneapolis during the Care Providers of Minnesota Annual Convention. Her husband, Robert Davis, and granddaughter Nicole were in the audience as Davis received her award.

She is the second volunteer at Inter-Faith to receive this honor.
