It might look like winter outside - but spring flowers are on the way! The American Cancer Society will once again turn Carlton County yellow with daffodils, the symbol of hope, March 5-9, and local ACS volunteers are currently taking preorders for the flowers.
"The Flower of Hope gives us a beautiful way to usher in spring and, at the same time, generate much-needed funds to continue our lifesaving programs of research, education advocacy and service," said Carlton County Daffodil Days Chair Holly Peterson. "With your help, we hope to continue the success with this year's Daffodil Days."
Peterson said presales are encouraged this year, as there will be very limited onsite sales and availability of daffodils and the associated products. Pre-sale orders are due by Feb. 9.
Bunches of daffodils sell for a contribution to the ACS of $8 each. Also available is the "Gift of Hope," a beautiful bouquet of daffodils set in a vase and delivered anonymously to a cancer patient, which sells for $15. The "Sunshine Bouquet," for a donation of $75, features a glass vase filled with six bouquets of vibrant daffodils and fresh greenery and is perfect for reception areas, conference tables, churches or your home.
Businesses can also order a half case of 250 daffodils (total of 25 bunches) for $175 or a case of 500 daffodils (total of 50 bunches) for $340.

Preordered daffodils totaling under 10 bunches will be available for pick up at Woodland II Insurance, 35 14th Street, Cloquet, on March 7 and 8. Any Sunshine Bouquet or orders of 10 bunches or more will be delivered to the address you indicate at the time of the order.
In addition to bunches of daffodils, 2007 marks the addition of "Hugh R. Hope," a special Boyd's Bear designed exclusively for the A.C.S.'s Daffodil Days. For a donation of $25, the recipient will receive this plush, collectible bear and a beautiful bunch of daffodils.

"Thank you in advance for being part of the hope," stated Peterson. "What better way to spread the hope of a world free from cancer while, at the same time, brightening others' lives wit these beautiful flowers!"
