Although Cromwell-Wright track coach Dave Foster has been coaching for nine years, this year he had a significant "first" experience.

It was the first time he sent a boy and a girl to state in the same year - two boys and a girl, in fact.

Cromwell-Wright had three standouts qualify for the state meet, as junior Ashley Collman took second place in the girls 400-meter dash, while sophomore Jordan Suhonen won the boys 800-meter run and junior Jordan Smith finished runner-up in both the 80-0 and 1600-meter runs on the boys side.

"One of the most exciting things about Jordan Suhonen was that he won the 800-meter run at sections and that was the first race he had won all year," Foster said. "It was amazing to watch him run in the slow heat and still win the whole thing."

Smith led the way at state, earning All-State honors with his team-leading seventh place finish in the 1600-meter run. Smith also placed 10th in the 800-meter run, while Suhonen trailed just behind in 14th place.

"It was so nice that they all got down there," Foster said. "This season was good kids and good times."
