Misty Louise Mattinas, 27, of Onamia, Minnesota, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges related to a crash that killed her 3-year-old son and injured her 5-year-old daughter in November.
Mattinas requested a contested omnibus hearing, which is scheduled to take place before Judge Rebekka Stumme on Oct. 8. According to a court document, Mattinas' defense counsel intends to challenge whether statements made by the defendant may be introduced as evidence in her pending trial.
A criminal complaint alleges Mattinas had been drinking alcohol and was looking at her cellphone when her car veered off a Cloquet road and struck a tree in a collision that killed her son, Dennis Solis, 3, and injured her daughter, Mia Solis, 5, shortly before 4:30 p.m. Nov. 7, 2020.
Mattinas faces charges of criminal vehicular homicide, criminal vehicular operation, two counts of child endangerment, possession of an open bottle of alcohol while driving, and driving after revocation.
