An alleged vehicle theft that began in Moose Lake on Wednesday, Feb. 17, ended when a Superior, Wisconsin, man crashed the vehicle on the Bong Bridge and jumped 35 feet from the bridge to evade police.
Anthony Devere Seaberg, 26, is accused of stealing a vehicle that was left running outside of Poor Gary's Pizza in Moose Lake, according to the criminal complaint.
After Carlton County authorities located the vehicle, the driver — later identified as Seaberg — refused to pull over, the criminal complaint said. Seaberg allegedly led officers on a chase north on Interstate 35, traveling at speeds up to 100 mph.
Officers pursued the driver until the vehicle collided with a concrete barrier on the Duluth side of the Bong Bridge, at which point the man fled the vehicle on foot and jumped approximately 35 feet from the bridge into the snow, the criminal complaint said.
Seaberg was later apprehended by Duluth police officers who received a tip from a local security guard. He did not suffer any noticeable injuries when he jumped from the bridge, according to Carlton County Sheriff Kelly Lake.
Seaberg is currently being held at the Carlton County Jail on a bail of $1,000. He faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle and fleeing police officers.
Prior to his Carlton County arrest, Seaberg had been serving probation stemming from a 2012 Wisconsin burglary conviction.
At the time of his arrest on Feb. 17, Seaberg had a warrant out for his arrest from Wisconsin authorities following a parole violation.
Seaberg made his initial appearance in Carlton County Court Wednesday, Feb. 24 and is scheduled to appear again on March 29.
He is scheduled to be extradited to Wisconsin and will face charges in both states, Lake said.
