Carlton County is applying for Small Cities Development Program grant funds from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development for a countywide housing and commercial property rehabilitation project. If funded, the project will bring about $950,000 of economic activity to the community.

If Carlton County receives funding, there will be opportunities for low-income homeowners and owners of rental housing units and commercial buildings to rehabilitate or "fix-up" their properties by bringing the units up to code and into compliance with HUD regulations.

To aid with the application, the county is requesting that property owners fill out pre-applications to help show the state that there are property owners interested in the program.

Grant funds will be awarded on a first-come first-serve basis, and property owners with completed pre-applications on file will be given first preference to the grant funds, should they become available.

For pre-applications and more information about the program, contact Lakes and Pines Community Action Council Inc. at (320) 679-1800 or (800) 832-6082, Ext. 123 or Carlton County Economic Development Department at (218) 384-9597.
