CMH/SHCC donate to Salvation Army

Employees and patients at Community Memorial Hospital and Sunnyside Health Care Center have been very generous this holiday season with their contributions to the Salvation Army food shelf and the Toys for Tots programs.

For the past month, efforts have been under way at CMH/SHCC to help the Salvation Army meet its growing need for toys and food.

Over $1,078 was raised for the Toys for Tots program through two sloppy joe fundraisers, a bake sale, employee contributions and a generous donation from a patient who said it was for the "awesome care" she received from the hospital staff.

Michaud Distributing donated six cases of water to the fundraisers, and B & B Market donated 10 pounds of ground beef. Employees of the lab and other departments donated the baked goods.

Hospital and Sunnyside employees also donated 369 pounds of food to the Salvation Army food shelf. This includes food donated by the 25 individuals who gave blood during the Memorial Blood Center blood drive. Everyone donating blood was encouraged to bring in food when they donated. For each unit of blood collected, Memorial Blood Center will now donate a pound of food to Northern Food Bank, which will distribute it to local food shelves.
