In a grass roots effort to raise awareness of both our physical and emotional environments, WKLK-AM/WKLK-FM/WMOZ-FM are introducing a new countywide program called PULSE. The acronym stands for People United to Live in a Safe Environment.

The PULSE program will involve educating the public about important issues in the community such as recycling, proper maintenance of vehicle to cut down on emissions, proper disposal of appliances, conserving energy, cleaning up parks and beautifying neighborhoods. However, PULSE will also include public awareness campaigns such as making sure home fire alarms and smoke detectors are working, wearing seat belts, neighborhood watch programs, how to avoid being the victim of crimes, and even ways to make your home safe from fire. PULSE will also focus on health-related issues and health maintenance issues as well as making it an all-encompassing type of program.

"We really believe that PULSE will have a huge local impact," said WKLK General manager Mark Senarighi. "Our three radio stations will be a constant source of information on all of these issues. We will be making a concerted effort to focus on a specific area every couple of months and then move into other important topics."

The PULSE idea is the brainchild of the staff at WKLK/WMOZ, who wanted to find a way to give something important back to their communities.

"We are always trying to find ways to make our community better," said Senarighi. "We can see this becoming an important program in our schools in the county, with the police, sheriff and fire departments, as well as hospitals, clinics and those in the environmental industry."

As part of the kickoff for the campaign, the radio station will give away buttons and wristbands at the Carlton County Fair in August.
