A Cloquet man has been sentenced to 18 months in prison after stealing a television, checks, business records and hair products from a local styling salon.

Beau William Diver, 21, was convicted of one felony count of third-degree burglary in Carlton County Court last Wednesday. Judge Leslie Beiers stayed Diver’s sentence for three years and ordered him to undergo supervised probation. He was also sentenced to 190 days of local confinement and given credit for the 190 days he has already served. The matter of restitution in the case will be reserved for 30 days.

Diver’s sentence will be served concurrently with another he is serving for burglarizing CornerStone State Bank in Cloquet the month following the hair salon incident.

In the criminal complaint filed in the case, on Oct. 26, 2013, Cloquet police officers responded to a burglary on 14th Street. Officers spoke with the owner of the hair salon located at that address, who reported that when she arrived to open for business she noticed the back door was unlocked and several items were missing. She inspected the exterior of the building and found that a basement window had been removed and appeared to be the point of entry for the intruder.

Initially there were no suspects in the case, but on Nov. 13, during the execution of a search warrant at a home on 13th Street in relation to the CornerStone burglary investigation, officers located hair products they believed were taken during the hair salon burglary.

The hair products were later identified by the owner of the salon.

When authorities interrogated Diver, he confessed to the salon burglary, confirming he entered the building through the basement window and took items from the building.

Diver was sentenced in the CornerStone burglary case in December 2013 to a prison term of 23 months on one felony count of second-degree burglary. That sentence was stayed for three years and Diver was placed on supervised probation. He was also sentenced to nine months of local confinement, with credit for 47 days already served, and ordered to pay $8,468.93 in restitution.
