Cloquet man charged with sexual assault

A 53-year-old Cloquet man was arraigned Monday in St. Louis County District Court on charges that he sexually assaulted a pre-teen girl and two other girls younger than 16.

A 53-year-old Cloquet man was arraigned Monday in St. Louis County District Court on charges that he sexually assaulted a pre-teen girl and two other girls younger than 16.

Sandford "Skip" Harvey McColley, whose most recent address is listed as 7090 Morris Thomas Road, Cloquet, is charged with three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct and three counts of second-degree criminal sexual conduct.

A St. Louis County Sheriff's investigator conducted interviews with the girls at the First Witness Child Abuse Resource Center in Duluth on Jan. 10. The girls described to the investigator how they said McColley sexually assaulted them.

According to the criminal complaint, the sheriff's investigator also received a call from a woman who said that McColley had molested her and had intercourse with her when she was between the ages of four and 11 and living in another state.

McColley has a prior conviction in 1975 for taking indecent liberties.

McColley is being held in the St. Louis County Jail on $40,000 bail. His next court appearance is scheduled for May 14.
