All it takes is a little soap, clean rags and some fun loving kids to get Vacation Bible School at Cloquet Gospel Tabernacle off and running. This year's theme, "God's Big Backyard," had a strong emphasis on community service.

"The idea behind this program goes beyond entertaining children with glue and scissors," said Linnea Barto, community corner coordinator. "The emphasis of this Vacation Bible School gets kids away from the TV and puts them to work serving people in our communities."

The week started out with solid Biblical teaching on why it is vital to serve part of the family first and then branch out to serve in the neighborhood and community at large. Kids were encouraged to look beyond their own personal needs to see the needs of people right in the Cloquet area who are hurting and in need of support. Kids can make a difference and when given opportunity, arise to a place of meaningful service.

While kids played games, had snacks and made special projects, the major emphasis of the week was serving others. VBS included kids age 3-10. "God's Big Backyard" opened June 16 and ran through June 19.
