The future appears bright for the Cloquet girls basketball program following a first-place finish in the Minnesota State Region 7 Pacesetters Basketball Tournament by a Cloquet fifth-grade team.
"We played three exciting games," said coach Andrew DePoe. "There were so many outstanding plays that there are too many to list!"
The team was comprised of players from the Cloquet Purple and Cloquet White fifth-grade teams, which finished first and second in local league play.
Cloquet opened play with a 28-22 victory over Mt. Iron-Buhl. In semifinal play they downed Isle 19-17, and then in the title game Cloquet took a 26-21 win over Orr.
Players include Alexis Kettlehut and Britny Berg at guard, Sammy Zeadow, Emily Conner, Chloe Klingaman, Amber King and Miaja Doran at forward, and post players Jaiden Brland, Carly Cadwell, Katie Olson-DePoe, Hailey Anderson and Payton Ninneman.

The 2007 Pacesetter Minnesota State Basketball Tournament will be held July 15 at the College of St. Benedict in St. Joseph, Minn., with the top eight regional champions playing for the state title.
