Carlton High School varsity basketball players Christine Bryant and Elissa Sandstrom have been selected for the Academic All-State Award from the Minnesota Girl's Basketball Coaches Association.

The Academic All-State Award is given to varsity athletes who excel on the court as well as in the classroom. Students must achieve a cumulative grade point average of 3.8 or better.

"Christine and Elissa have been starters on the varsity team for the last couple years and also named to the All-Conference Team," said Dave Battaglia, Carlton High School principal and girls basketball coach.

"Their motivation definitely carries over into their academic life, where they take the most challenging classes and earn outstanding grades."
