The Carlton High School Knowledge Bowl team advanced to the Minnesota State Knowledge Bowl competition for the second year in a row last weekend and came out one of the top teams in the state.

Competing against 96 other teams in the Northeast Minnesota Division, all three Carlton High School teams made it into the regional finals in March. One of the Carlton teams came out in the top three teams at regionals to compete at state. Members include Ashley Clark, Alexandra Clark, Adam Meyer, Sam Kavanaugh, Chris Butler and Lydia Fasteland.

"This is an experienced team, having been to state last year as well," said Becky Connolly, Carlton Knowledge Bowl advisor. "They have a diverse information background and work well as a team."

The Minnesota State Knowledge Bowl competition took place April 17-18 at Cragun's Resort in Brainerd, Minn., and the Carlton teams placed seventh in the whole state. The team initially tied for sixth (places one through six get medals), and they went to a tie breaker session where they tied once again. Then they went on to a sudden death tie breaker with one question, at which time they fell to seventh ("No medal, but still darned good!" commented Carlton's Deb Saunders).
